TOOLS
Forensic Calculation Tools
Each calculator below applies a specific formula used in crash reconstruction. Select a tool to work through the calculation.
Drag Factor
Calculates the drag factor (braking severity) from a vehicle’s speed change over a known distance.
Acceleration Rate
Calculates the rate of acceleration or braking from distance travelled, time, and starting speed.
Critical Curve Speed
Estimates the maximum speed a vehicle could hold through a curve before losing grip.
Curve Radius (Chord & Ordinate)
Calculates a curve’s radius from a measured chord length and middle ordinate.
Distance During Braking
Calculates the distance covered during a period of acceleration or braking.
Distance from Average Speed
Calculates distance covered at a constant speed, from a start speed, end speed, and time.
Skid-to-Stop Speed
Estimates a vehicle’s speed from a measured skid distance, assuming braking to a stop.
Speed After Distance
Calculates the speed a vehicle reached after covering a known distance of acceleration or braking.
Speed After Time
Calculates the speed a vehicle reached after a known period of acceleration or braking.
Speed Change Rate
Calculates the rate of acceleration or braking from a vehicle’s speed at the start and end of a time interval.
Starting Speed (Distance & Time)
Works out a vehicle’s starting speed from the distance covered and the time taken.
Starting Speed (End Speed & Distance)
Works out a vehicle’s starting speed from its end speed and the distance covered; the general form of the skid-to-stop calculation.
Starting Speed (End Speed & Time)
Works out a vehicle’s starting speed from its end speed and a period of acceleration or braking.
Time for Speed Change
Calculates the time required for a vehicle to change speed at a known rate.
GPS Distance
Calculates the physical distance between two GPS Point Coordinates.
Theoretical Gear Speed
Calculates the theoretical speed based on gear ratios and wheel size.
